Welding ovens keep welding electrodes and SAW fluxes dry. Low-hydrogen electrodes and fluxes absorb moisture from the air, and that moisture causes hydrogen cracking and porosity in welds. Correct baking, holding and site storage of consumables is required by most welding codes.

Portable electrode drying ovens (5-10 kg) keep rods dry at the work point. Stationary mother electrode ovens (100-2,000 kg) bake and hold electrodes in bulk. SAW flux ovens (50-500 kg) bake and hold submerged arc welding flux.

Welding Ovens FAQs
Why do welding electrodes need an oven?
Low-hydrogen electrodes absorb moisture, which causes hydrogen cracking. Ovens bake out the moisture and hold electrodes dry until use.
What is the difference between a baking oven and a holding oven?
Baking (re-drying) is done at high temperature, often 250-350°C. Holding keeps electrodes at about 100-150°C until use.
Do you make SAW flux ovens?
Yes, from 50 kg to 500 kg, front-loading and top-loading.
Can portable ovens run on DC?
Yes. 80 V DC models run from the welding machine.
