Welding fluxes show a close resemblance with the stick welding electrodes since both acquire atmospheric moisture quite naturally. The ingredients of bonded welding fluxes are powdered and dry. Keeping impurities away from the welding area by creating a safety shield is the primary purpose of flux.

The metal acquires hydrogen from the moisture that contaminates the flux when exposed. Once the weld cools down, it shows pinholes and signs of cracks by turning brittle. Flux, when contaminated, may even increase corrosion to aluminum and other metals; that’s why it’s necessary to keep it dry during the welding period.
