A flux drying oven removes moisture from submerged arc welding (SAW) flux before use. SAW flux protects the weld pool from the atmosphere, but if it carries moisture it introduces hydrogen into the weld and causes porosity and cracking. Drying flux is therefore a standard step on vessel, pipe and structural welding lines.

How the Flux Drying Oven Works
Flux is spread on trays in thin layers and heated with circulating air to the drying temperature recommended by the flux maker, typically 250-350°C. It is then held at a lower temperature until it is loaded into the welding machine hopper.
